Sustainable Urban Transport Plan - Örebro

Pilot Action

Pilot action evaluation report

Express bus

One of the most important issue in traveling is the fact how long it takes. Usually travellers chose their own car instead of the public transport because it is thought to be a faster way of travelling.

That is why the aim of this Pilot Action in Örebro is to encourage people to use public transport that could conquer with the other way of travelling.

As a result the bus service between Odensbacken and Örebro (27 km) will get a new time table with some departures running as express service with just two or three stops on the route.

The pilot action was chosen from the fact that a lot of people travel by car on that distance, despite a regular and quite frequent bus service (buses every 15-20 minutes during peak time and every 45-60 minutes during mid-day, evenings and weekends).

Urban freight distribution consolidation

The aim is to reduce the number of freight delivery transports in Örebro. This will be achieved by better communication and new routines among participating companies in order to coordinate their freight deliveries. Another goal is to create a model of work that will continue after the project period, and a method that can by applied by other companies as well as in other cities.

An important prerequisite for a continuation after the project period is that the companies can experience a clear advantage of participating in the coordination.

Advantages for the shops can be a reduction in paper work, a better control of consumption and a higher level of security and delivery service – and thus a better economy. The delivery firms can use their vehicles more efficient and thus improve their profitability.
