ELTIS – European Local Transport Information Service
ELTIS is an EU-funded web-portal on urban transport and mobility. It contains a multitude of case-studies on urban transport, information on new publications, events and tenders and is strongly recommended as an information source for everyone involved in urban transport in need of examples or ideas.

CIVITAS
The EU initative CIVITAS aims at helping cities to achieve a more sustainable, clean and energy efficient urban transport system. Several BUSTRIP-cities are also actively involved in the CIVITAS initiative. On the CIVITAS-webpage, many case-study examples for different measures can be found (under CIVITAS measures). CIVITAS also produces a free electronic newsletter on urban tranport issues, see under CIVITAS News for prescription.

Design manual for bicycle traffic. CROW Record 25, 2007.
The Dutch cycle a lot and cycling is a predominant mode of transport in Dutch cities. So it is no surprise that the bible for bicycle infrastructure planning comes from the Netherlands. This manual has been gradually improved and extended since it was first published in 1993 and the latest edition is full of hands-on knowledge. This is most probably the best technical manual on cycle planning around and it is strongly recommeded for traffic engineers and planners that want to improve for cyclists in their city.

The book can be ordered directly from the publisher: www.crow.nl/engels - publications – traffic engineering.

Another dutch book from the same publisher is more aimed at planners and city architects:

Urban design and traffic – a selection from Bach’s toolbox, CROW Publicatie 221, 2006
This fascinating and well illustrated book in both Dutch and English is looking at the relationship between traffic and urban planning from many different angles. It makes a clear point in that urban planning and traffic engineering need to work together to create sustainable, livable and safe cites where people play the central role. The book tries to provide planners and engineers with an understanding of the problems and tools to adress them. The main theme of the book is the generation of extra opportunities and qualities in the city. While not disregarding the car, this book focuses on cycling, public transport and station areas, particularly in terms of urban planning.

The book can be ordered directly from the publisher: www.crow.nl/engels - publications - public space.
