Air quality management

The air quality improvement action programme 2004-2008 in Liepaja highlights:

• the influence of transport on local air pollution (NO 2, NO x) and that these parameters at main streets in the city exceed the limit values;
• lack of complete information regarding air quality in the city;
• necessity for detailed air quality assessment;

The pilot action aims at filling the information gap by assessing the influence of traffic intensity on NO x air pollution in the city centre.

NO x concentrations will be assessed by using diffusive sampling method. It is planned to take 10 samples at different places at the main streets. At the same time the traffic stream intensity will be measured at the same streets.
